ANOS and ANOS Groups promote and grow orchids from the ANOS area. The ANOS area is defined fully below but simplistically, it includes Australia, New Guinea and pacific islands. ANOS eligible orchids are species orchids growing naturally in the ANOS area plus orchid hybrids bred exclusively from ANOS eligible orchid species.
The ANOS area is:-
- Commonwealth of Australia and all its territories plus
- all islands south-east of a line joining 0° latitude 130° east longitude, and 20° south latitude and 120° east longitude and
- all islands east of Australia to the International Date Line and south of the Equator
All species growing naturally in the ANOS area are ANOS eligible. A list of all ANOS eligible orchid species is available here. In addition, hybrids made exclusively utilising these species are also ANOS eligible. There is currently no up to date list of ANOS eligible hybrids, but ANOS is working on producing this list.
The current border of the ANOS area is displayed as a red line. Note: Correct as at 26/4/2023
