Leo Cady (1931-2018)

We are sad to report that Leo Cady passed away  August 11th  2018.  Born in New South Wales, Leo was a foundation member of the Australasian Native Orchid Society (ANOS) in 1963. He is a life member of the ANOS Illawarra Group.

He wrote the book Australian Native Orchids in Colour (1970), with Eric Rotherham, a Victorian naturalist and photographer. He has written over 80 papers, mainly on orchids, for books and journals, including one read at the 5th World Orchid Conference in Hamburg, Germany. He has contributed more than 40 articles for The Orchadian.

 Leo was involved in the discovery and description of a number of terrestrial orchids as well as describing the natural hybrid Dendrobium × suffusum Cady in 1964 (The Orchadian 1: 80).

Leo was an accomplished botanical artist, photographer and speaker, and contributed much to the knowledge of orchids, particularly in the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Highland areas.

For those who wish to attend, the well known and loved orchidist Leo Cady’s funeral will be held at the  Stan Crapp Funeral Parlour  125 Manning Street  Kiama, New South Wales on Friday at 12 midday.
